How can this be, you ask- saltines are a starch that is highly processed, and has components whose genetics are artificially created. This makes the crackers more cavity causing by having an elevated glycemic index. Crackers are also very fermentable. We all have bacteria in our mouths, which eat & go to the bathroom on our teeth (microscopically). These bugs love the saltine’s simple & processed starches, which turn into sticky gooey stuff, stuck on and between our teeth. The bugs proliferate beyond the normal balance in our mouths, when we eat a lot of crackers (simple starches). This causes an acidic environment, and destroys our teeth, and irritates our gums, causes bad breath.
Actually any other foods that contain whitened refined flour, has the same effect. A better choice is to choose crackers made of whole grains.
