There is a set of teeth (partial dentures), known as the “teeth that saved the world”, that belonged to Prime Minister Winston Churchill. You can understand that these are not your average run of the mill dentures, but gold upper partial dentures (one of a set of three), which were used during Churchill’s popular WW II London radio broadcasts.
As a young child, Churchill needed extensive dental treatments for his gum and teeth problems. He needed replacements for some of his teeth. Few people knew that he had a lisp problem for the letter “S”. His dentures helped him overcome this when he gave his radio speeches. The Royal College of Surgeons further state that his dentures were specifically made to not fit tightly against the roof of his mouth, so as not to alter his unique “slurry” speech.
So, what area the teeth worth? The son of the dental tech, Nigel Cudlipp, recently put up the denture at an auction, where it was believed that they would fetch $7,800. They actually sold for a whopping $24,000.00. They were bought by a British collector, who also owns the microphone used by Churchill to announce the ending of the war in Europe!
