In order to brush our teeth, and keep our oral health - (teeth and gums) - in tip top shape, we have to perform proper oral hygiene at least twice a day, says Dr. Marks. In doing so, we will prevent such maladies as dental cavities (caries), gum or periodontal disease, tooth loss (needing oral surgery), etc. If we are fastidious about this, we will prevent getting dental fillings, or deep cleanings (scaling and root planing), or dentures, or dental implants etc. So what could the object in the picture possibly have to do with all of this, asks Dr. Marks? Diamonds are a girl's best friend, but did you know they can be your MOUTH's best friend also, claims Danbury Dentist Jay M. Marks, DMD

But what relation could diamonds possibly have to do with our mouths, asks Dr. Marks?

Does sugar cause cavities? This is the $64,000.00 question says Dr. Marks.
It so happens that Cavities (caries, tooth decay, bum teeth) are the most common human disease known to mankind (and probably to animals- friend & foe- also). 97% of mankind has this malady. This "disease" occurs commonly in young children, teenyboppers, and also adults. Actually anyone or anything that has teeth are subject to this condition, including babies. It is actually important to have a visit with the dentist as soon as your pearly whites appear in the mouth.
As we all know, if we ignore the dentist, states Dr. Marks, any cavities we have will get larger and grow deeper into the teeth. This can lead to sensitivity, pain, holes in our teeth, dark staining, tooth loss, dentures- all things we are better off not having.
